Our trip

On March 11st a group of students from the 1st and 2nd years of Batxillerat and two teachers set out for Athens (Greece). Our trip lasted for 5 days and 4 nights.

On our first day in Greece, we arrived in the afternoon, we left our baggage in the hotel and walked around Monastiraki Square. At the background, we could see the Acropolis, which is spotlighted at night. Afterwards, we ate some yogurt some of us didn't really appreciate. Then we returned to the hotel to sleep, as we were tired.

On our second day in Greece we went on an outing to Athens. There we visited the Acropolis, where we marvelled at the ancient Greeks' architectural prowess.  Among all of the wonderful constructions there, the most significant is the Parthenon, which was built between 447 and 432 B. C. It was dedicated to the goddess Athena, regarded by the Athenians as their protector.

March 13th. In the morning, it was raining. We got up at 5 o'clock, as the bus would be waiting for us in a short time. Our journey by bus to the Corinth Canal lasted for three hours, but we couldn't be there very long because it was raining too much. Later, we went to the archaeological site of Mycenae, where we could see the wall, which is taller than other city walls because the Mycenaean people were often at war. We also went to visit the Museum and later we saw the Lion Gate, the Tomb of Agammenon, the walls of Tiryns and the Theatre of Epidaurus. Afterwards, we had lunch at a typical Greek restaurant. For the last time, we went home to Fivos hotel.

After having seen the Acropolis we visited its museum, where we could admire the sculptures and busts treasured there for so long. It was not allowed to take pictures in that museum, but we somehow managed to take this one. We liked the museum a lot, as there were many interesting and intriguing masterworks on display.

On our fourth day we had to be ready at eight o'clock to go to Theseus' Temple. In the beginning we didn't find the entrance to the Temple so we spent some time walking around trying to find it. Finally, we went in and saw the ruins of the Άγορα (that is, the agora, the main square). We went up to the temple and took some photos. Then, we went to the National Museum. We saw statues of many gods, like Zeus, or Aphrodite, and mythological creatures like the Sphinx. Then, after having lunch, we went to Monastiraki Square to buy things, have dinner, etc.

These are the fabulous views from the Parthenon, which overlooks the city of Athens.
